We went over the seas to The Outer Hebrides in September 2009.
Our base was on the beautiful Island of Barra,where we able to explore the other Western Iles as far north to North Uist.
Most of the photography was of course taken on Barra.

Photos of the festival at Firhill Basin on the Glasagow sector of the Canal. Including Speirs Wharf.
Organised by The Waterways Trust Scotland,it was a great success and included free trips on Canal Boats and plenty of organised events including a night time torchlit procession by local kids and illuminated floating models of famous Glasgow Landmarks.

O.K. so I called it Prestwick, but in actual fact its real name is Glasgow Prestwick......Its all very confusing as Prestwick is 25 miles away from Glasgow.....Confused you will be....Most sites just show the 'aircraft' in the pics but I think a 'wee' bit extra is needed and that is why I show some background Interest.

This annual event takes place on the Saturday and Sunday of the Glasgow Fair Weekend and is a 'must see' attraction for visitors to Glasgow.

On the tourist trail from Stonehaven to Arbroath the visitor has to go off the beaten track to savour the delights of this North Sea coastline. There are numerous fishing villages which give an insight into life as it was and locals willing to impart their tales of better times. You cannot leave without purchasing the famous 'Smokie' from Arbroath, a delicacy not to be missed.

The infamous Cockbridge to Tomintoul Rd is the first road closed when winter snows arrive..... We are now on the Malt Whiskey Trail with some of the most stunning scenery in Scotland. The town of Granton on Spey lies at 220m in upper Speyside. A town built of grey stone. The towns name derives from the Castle Grant about 1694 circa. and was favoured by Victorian Tourists.

The A93 at Blairgowrie is the starting point for the Millitary Road to Braemar. The views are breathtaking and you pass through some high mountains and Glenshee Ski Centre. Braemar at 1100ft above sea level is famous for the anual Braemar Gathering, attended by Royalty every year. On to Balmoral, summer residence for our Royal Family and Crathie Church. We then arrive at Ballater, Royal Deeside. The 'By Appoinment Signs' denote its Royal connections.

The Montrose Air Station Heritage Trust run this Famous Air Station. It was the first Operational Air Field in the U.K. All our heros from The Battle of Britain trained at Montrose before being seconded to their respective Bases. A facinating experience awaits the visitor who takes time to locate this Air Base. You will see a video and visit the museum with the guidance of a knowladgeable volunteer. Please support The Trust they deserve all the support given.

It has everything including the Smallest Cathederal, abundant wildlife,spectacular scenery,friendly locals,lots of accomadation,
safe childrens play areas,lots of pubs in fact it has everything you would ever want as a holiday destination.

A stunning part of Scotland....Historic with great scenery....
Photo opportunities abound if you are lucky with the right conditions.
Plenty of places to visit with an Historic Interest including the stronghold of the Dukes of Argyll - Inveraray Castle.
Stop off at Glen Kinglas and take time to stand on the old drovers bridge where after the 1745 uprising prisoners from
Dumbarton Castle were taken via this route to Inveraray Jail.

Pohtos taken on a beautiful Spring Day. This area really is a magnate for visitors and residents alike. Although closed to the public,Ross Priory is well worth a visit,Sir Walter Scott wrote parts of The Lady of the Lake and Rob Roy at the shoreline. The energetic can climb Duncryne Hill [141m] locally known as 'The Dumpling' and a must visit is Drymen with its delightful village pubs.

If you reach this 'Port' in Ayrshire your next trip is the ferry crossing to Arran. Ardrossan is the main ferry terminal to one of Scotlands finest Islands. The Harbour area is in the process of rebuilding work which can be seen by the beautiful houseing at 'The Marina'. Ardrossan was once a favorite holiday destination,but most tourists who pass through are now heading to Arran.

The town of Ayr has long been a favorite attraction both with Scots and tourists. Everyone must visit Burns Cottage in Alloway a short distance from the town centre. Another must see location is the Old Ayrshire Fishing Village of Dunure a couple of miles south of Ayr, with its harbour, jetty, pub and cottages. and not forgetting Dunure Castle [The scene of a most horrific torture]

One of our better known towns with a great shopping centre, although parking can be a problem....Home of Paisley Abbey and other historic buildings. Glasgow Airport on the doorstep with plenty transport and a proposed new rail link from Glasgow to the airport via Paisley. Well worth the visit if only to see the old Mill made famous by the 'Paisley Pattern' with lots of places for exploration, and of course the ancestral home of St. Mirren Football Club.
